Food Packaging Upcycling Project, Accrington

24 November 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

The project combines the environmental benefits of upcycling waste, specifically food packaging, with the therapeutic benefits of art and craft making to support carers and people experiencing social isolation, especially people with dementia.

A variety of unique items from the 1940s to the 1970s will be developed and created to stimulate conversation, stories, and memories. For example, a spinning top from the 1950s made from food packaging, or a telephone model from the 1960s/70s.

This process, in turn, can lead group conversations into subjects such as memories of TV adverts, local shops and childhood memories.

We intend to provide these innovative workshops for eight weeks, which will be hosted at Woodhaven day centre; each session will be 2hr’s in duration.

As a result of the Covid Pandemic, social isolation, seclusion, and loneliness have been heightened. The project introduces a completely new approach to tackling these issues.
